Promoting democracy and responsibility in election campaigning

Pre-election voter meetings are not merely a statutory step in the campaigning process; they also provide candidates with an opportunity to present their proposed action programmes directly, demonstrating their political resolve, responsibility and commitments before the people.

Localities have become increasingly vibrant as voter meetings with candidates for the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels officially commence.

At the meetings, voters expressed agreement and appreciation for the candidates’ action programmes, voicing expectations that those elected will continue to fully convey voters’ views and act with dedication and responsibility for the development of their localities and the country. Ms. H’Mel Ayun, from Mui 2 hamlet, Krong Buk commune, noted: “The candidates’ courteous and open manner is a significant advantage, fostering trust among voters. Their concise and focused presentation of action programmes makes it easier for voters to grasp the key points and make accurate, appropriate choices”.

Voter meetings for candidates to conduct election campaigning take place from the date of publication of the official list of candidates and conclude 24 hours before polling time, before 7.00 am on March 14, 2026.

Professional and flexible organisation of voter meetings

On February 13, the Standing Board of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee issued a plan to organise voter meetings for candidates for the 16th National Assembly and the provincial People’s Council for the 2026-2031 term to conduct election campaigning in accordance with the law.

notable new feature of this round of voter meetings is the flexible combination of various formats, including in-person meetings, in-person meetings combined with online participation, and communication through mass media. This approach not only maximises opportunities for candidates to meet and engage with voters but also enhances communication effectiveness, ensuring that all voters have access to information about candidates and their respective action programmes.

Through these meetings, candidates for the National Assembly and the provincial People’s Council for the 2026-2031 term present their proposed action programmes to voters should they be entrusted with election. The meetings also enable voters to gain a deeper understanding of each candidate’s political qualities, professional competence, work experience and intended priorities, providing a sound basis for considering and selecting those who truly meet the required standards and are worthy of representing the will and aspirations of the people.

Comrade Le Ba Canh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, stated that organising voter meetings online or in a hybrid format facilitates participation for candidates, particularly those standing for election at multiple levels, while reducing travel time and costs and making it more convenient for voters to attend.

Under the plan, voter meetings with candidates for the 16th National Assembly will be held in person at 20 venues and online at 82 venues across the province.

For candidates for the provincial People’s Council for the 2026-2031 term, 180 in-person meetings and 17 online meetings will be organised in the province. Each meeting is required to have at least 100 voters in attendance, thereby promoting democracy and improving the quality of voter engagement and the effectiveness of election campaigning.
