Ensuring freedom of belief and religion: Fostering national harmony, promoting strength of great unity

Throughout the course of history, the Party has consistently upheld a firm standpoint: respecting and ensuring freedom of belief along with religion for all population segments.

The 14th National Party Congress affirmed that great national unity serves as a foundation for gathering, promoting the strength of the people, as well as a condition for ensuring fairness and equality among ethnic groups, religions, alongside social strata in accessing development opportunities together with benefiting of reform achievements. This viewpoint carries not only political as well as organisational significance but also profound cultural and ethical depth: national development cannot be separated from community cohesion, while sustainability of system depends on public trust.

The Party not only recognises resources and role of religion but also encourages religious communities to follow principles such as “living a good secular life and a righteous religious life” along with “Dharma - Nation - Socialism”, thereby fostering harmony between religious belief together with ideals of serving Fatherland.

Translating religious policy into practice

As a province with diverse ethnic and religious composition, Dak Lak places strong emphasis on implementing guidelines, policies as well as laws related to belief, religion, while creating favourable conditions for religious organisations to develop and operate in line with principles alongside purposes, thereby promoting national harmony and strength of great national unity.

In Ea Knuec commune, thanks to support from local authorities, prayer house of Buon Pu Evangelical group was solidly built in 2019 with investment of around 1 billion VND. Since then, it has become a regular place of worship for local followers. With a stable venue for religious activities, residents have united, contributing to new rural development while supporting funds for poor households to improve livelihoods.

In Buon Kniet, Ea Ktur commune, more than 90 percent of population are religious followers, gathering at Buon Kniet Evangelical sub-association. Pastor Y Djan Eban, pastor in charge of the sub-association, said that in recent years, Party, State, along with local authorities have consistently ensured freedom of belief and religion while paying attention to improving living conditions of religious communities. The sub-association has also been allocated nearly 1.5 acres of land, with guidance for land-use conversion procedures, and is currently constructing a prayer house for followers.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Giang, Director of the Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, ensuring freedom of belief, religion is a key factor in fostering national harmony along with promoting strength of great national unity. Religious communities across the province have worked alongside authorities at all levels, actively participating in patriotic emulation movements, charitable and humanitarian activities, making practical contributions to new rural development, civilised urban areas, socio-eco growth, as well as maintaining security and defence in the locality.
