Energy transition paves the way for a green economy

Vietnam has officially rolled out E10 biofuel, blended with 10% ethanol, for nationwide use, marking a significant shift in the petroleum sector with the dual goal of enhancing energy self-sufficiency, while cutting emissions in support of a green economy.

Following an initial implementation period, E10 petrol has shown encouraging outcomes, with the market remaining stable, supply secured and consumers gradually embracing the fuel.

Consumers “try first, decide later”

In the eastern province, PVOIL Phu Yen began supplying E10 petrol in early 2026 before expanding to wider distribution by the end of March. All 48 petrol stations across PVOIL Phu Yen network are now supplying E10 to the market. Concurrently, from May 2, Petrolimex Phu Yen branch also commenced import and distribute E10 petrol to consumers.

In the western province, Petrolimex Dak Lak Co., Ltd. began supplying E10 petrol at two filling stations starting April 30, 2026.

Initially, most consumers remained cautious, mainly seeking information and comparing E10 with conventional fuels. However, after a short trial period, many consumers have proactively switched to E10. Positive signs indicate that the biofuel is gradually gaining initial public trust, paving the way for wider adoption in the coming period.

Mrs. Ho Thi Men, from Ea Kao ward, said that after receiving advice from petrol station staff and observing widespread usage, she decided to try E10. After using it, she found her vehicle operated smoothly as well as stably, reinforcing her confidence in continued use.

“Three-party” coordination key to E10 transition roadmap

To encourage public acceptance of E10 petrol, petrol stations are playing a crucial role in providing information and addressing consumer concerns. Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuc, Head of the Business Division at PVOIL Phu Yen, said: “We require staff to thoroughly understand the product so they can answer customers’ questions besides clearly explain the environmental, economic and consumer benefits of biofuel. This helps support an effective alongside sustainable transition to clean fuels. The enterprise is committed to maintaining stable supply for the market”.

After a period on the market, E10 has yet to create a major breakthrough but has achieved a stable start. Suppliers have not recorded any negative consumer feedback regarding product quality.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Thu An, Director of the Dak Lak Department of Industry and Trade, emphasised that the transition to E10 biofuel is not merely a shift in fuel type, but also a move toward greener, more sustainable as well as more environmentally responsible consumption habits.

According to Mrs. An, the roadmap success depends heavily on the coordinated efforts among “three parties”. For consumers, trust, proactive access to official information and willingness to support the transition will be decisive factors. For enterprises, particularly petroleum businesses, the transition represents both a responsibility along with an opportunity to improve service quality and adapt to clean energy trends. The Dak Lak Department of Industry and Trade committed to accompanying residents together with enterprises throughout transition process, ensuring market stability, uninterrupted supply, quality control and the best possible protection of consumer rights.
