Dak Lak responds to the Earth Hour campaign 2026

On the morning of March 28, in Buon Ma Thuot ward, the Department of Industry and Trade, in coordination with Dak Lak Power Company alongside the Provincial Youth Union, organised a launch ceremony for “All people using energy economically and efficiently in response to the Earth Hour campaign 2026”.

Earth Hour is a social initiative led by the Ministry of Industry and Trade since 2009, aimed at raising public awareness of climate change along with energy saving by encouraging households and business establishments to switch off lights as well as unnecessary electrical devices for 60 minutes. Over 17 years, campaign has attracted widespread participation from agencies, organisations, enterprises, and people nationwide.

In recent years, Dak Lak Provincial Youth Union has directed Youth Union and Association units at all levels to organise a range of practical and meaningful activities in response to Earth Hour, such as cycling campaigns as well as simultaneous switching off lights and unnecessary electrical devices for 60 minutes.

Building on these results, themed  “Green innovation - Green future” for Earth Hour 2026, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union has instructed affiliated units to effectively implement environmental protection activities, while strengthening communication and education to raise awareness among all members alongside young people on electricity and energy saving for a green planet.

Addressing the launch ceremony, Mr. Mai Manh Toan, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, stated: “In recent years, Vietnam in general as well as Dak Lak in particular are facing increasingly evident impacts of climate change, including extreme weather, resource depletion, and environmental pollution. These challenges require a shift towards green, sustainable and energy-efficient development”. He called on agencies, enterprises, and households to switch off lights together with unnecessary electrical devices from 20:30 to 21:30 on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Organisations and schools were also urged to promote and spread the programme’s significance to the community.

Participating in Earth Hour is not only about switching off lights for 60 minutes but also conveys a strong message calling on the whole of society to use energy economically and efficiently, towards sustainable development alongside protection of our green planet.

Following the ceremony, volunteers, including officials, public employees, workers, and Youth Union members across the province, joined a parade along central streets in Buon Ma Thuot ward to foster community connection and respond to Earth Hour 2026.
