Keeping pace with development trends, Dak Lak province is promoting the application of digital technology as an effective assistant to preserve cultural values while driving tourism growth.
Animating heritage through technology

Via a mobile application (DakLak Museum App) or website, visitors can engage in multi-dimensional interaction, rotate objects 360 degrees to examine intricate patterns on bronze drums, ancient jewellery collections or the legendary kpan chair of the Ede people. In particular, augmented reality (AR) technology has transforms traditional longhouses into a “digital stage”, where visitors can witness vivid reconstructions of traditional rituals, gong performances and Dam San epic.
Simultaneously, Dak Lak Museum is gradually building a digital database by photographing, processing images, inputting data into artefact management systems and digitising artefact records through scanning technology.
Ms. Vo Thi Phuong, Director of Dak Lak Museum, stated that digital technology brings significant benefits to preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. Digitising information along with artefacts not only protects heritage from deterioration and damage over time but also enables visitors to access, explore as well as utilise heritage information flexibly and effectively.
A dedicated “guide”
Alongside cultural preservation efforts, the tourism sector is also gradually reaching visitors through digital space. Instead of printed promotional materials, the province has focused on developing a smart tourism ecosystem, including digital maps, a culinary passport and travel guides.
Dak Lak Digital Tourism Map features destination search, information lookup, navigation, and listings of accommodation, restaurants, attractions as well as tourism services. Notably, the system incorporates 360-degree virtual reality technology and multilingual audio guides, enabling visitors to explore destinations in a vivid alongside convenient way.
Moreover, Dak Lak Culinary Passport is designed as a compact booklet introducing signature dishes, notable eateries, restaurants, hotels and transport services. It not only helps visitors easily enjoy local specialities but also deepens understanding of local culture together with customs. Concurrently, it creates linkages among destinations and service providers, forming a distinctive culinary tourism experience chain.
Mr. Le Phuc Long, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: “The development and operation of a tourism database as well as a digital tourism map system marks an important step, improving state management efficiency while also supporting enterprises to provide accurate and accessible information to visitors”.
