Short trips - a trend of frequent, nearby travel

As service costs rise and workers become increasingly demanding, the trend of short trips is rapidly gaining popularity across Dak Lak province.

Instead of spending time along with money on long holidays, many families are opting for  short trips that allow better budget control and greater flexibility in arranging their work schedules. Furthermore, the fact that many families own private vehicles makes short trips more convenient. Especially after the merger of Dak Lak alongside Phu Yen provinces, “mountain-to-sea” travel experiences have become increasingly popular.

With a travel time ranging from three to four hours by car, many people in the western region often choose to visit beaches in the eastern region on their days off to relax and swim. According to Mr. Le Van Hung (Tan Lap ward), going to the beach is now quite convenient; you can depart in the morning as well as arrive around midday. Short trips allow families to manage their time more effectively, without waiting for long holidays to rest and enjoy a change of scenery.

Opportunities for sustainable tourism development

Faced with changing tourists’ habits, many accommodation establishments and travel businesses have proactively adjusted their products towards streamlined yet bringing rich experiences.

A survey of provincial tourism company websites shows that most of the products currently offered are two-day-one-night or three-day-two-night tours with concise itineraries combined with flexible timings, suitable for the needs of tourists. These itineraries mainly target families, individual travelers, and local residents with reasonable costs.

According to Mr. Le Trong Nam, Director of Ban Me Travel Investment, Trade and Tourism Service Limited Liability Company (Buon Ma Thuot ward), short-day tours currently account for a large proportion of the company’s product structure. Routes such as Buon Ma Thuot - Phu Yen or combined forest coupled with beach itineraries are becoming increasingly popular due to the balance between time and budget.

Within accommodation sector, farmstay and homestay models in suburban areas have been attracting growing numbers of visitors. Ms. Pham Nu Luong Uyen, owner of Nha 1984 homestay, shared: “The majority of guests here are from within the province together with family groups on short vacations. Besides accommodation services, the homestay also focuses on developing local cultural experiences combined with entertainment activities such as listening to acoustic music, participating in gong performances, and enjoying local cuisine, etc., offering tourists the opportunity to enjoy a complete vacation at a single destination.”

It can be said that short-term tourism is opening up opportunities for Dak Lak’s tourism industry to maximize the potential of local tourists, reducing dependence on peak seasons or distant tourist markets.

With its inherent advantages in nature, climate, as well as convenient travel distance, this tourism segment is expected to become one of provincial key tourism products, promoting the development of food and transportation services alongside driving local authorities to invest in improving infrastructure and service quality.
