Positioning Dak Lak on the domestic and international tourism map

The PPC recently held a meeting to review the results and finalize the Dak Lak provincial draft tourism development scheme for the 2026-2030 period, with a vision toward 2050.

The draft scheme defines the provincial future tourism development model is growth driven by quality, value, alongside experience, shifting the focus from merely “counting visitor numbers” to “optimizing value per visitor”.

The goal is for tourism to become a crucial economic sector by 2030, establishing Dak Lak province as a distinctive tourism hub offering cultural, ecological, combined with coastal resort experiences within the South Central Coast together with Central Highlands regions, while positioning Buon Ma Thuot as the “World’s finest coffee capital”. By 2050, the province aims to become a premier national and international destination for distinctive eco-tourism along with cultural experiences.

The province plans to establish an East-West tourism corridor connecting the highlands to the coast, an East-side North-South coastal tourism corridor, in conjunction with an intra-regional North-South Central Highlands eco-cultural corridor. By 2030, the province strives to welcome over 15 million visitors, with tourism revenue contributing approximately 12.5% to the GRDP. During 2026-2030 period, plans include allocating over 6,550 billion VND from the budget and attracting 33 tourism development investment projects. By 2050, the target is to attract over 53 million visitors, with tourism revenue contributing approximately 15% to the GRDP.

Following PPC feedback on the draft scheme, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize seminars to gather feedback from experts, scientists, associations, major enterprises, in coordination with relevant agencies; this process aims to ensure the scheme’s quality, scientific validity, together with implementation feasibility.

Addressing the meeting, comrade Do Huu Huy, the PPC Chairman emphasized the core need to position Dak Lak provincial tourism sector, within the Central Highlands and Central regions, nationwide, globally, by leveraging unique advantages unavailable elsewhere. He also called for creating development scenarios with ambitious objectives coupled with ambitious targets capable of driving tourism growth.

The provincial leaders also directed to identify strategic tourism products, specifically highlighting six areas for prioritized development: coffee, the Global Geopark, elephants, gongs, coastal tourism, and forest ecology.

Chairman Do Huu Huy noted that development strategies must identify areas acting as growth driver, allowing to formulate as well as deploy tailored, effective development programs. He placed particular emphasis on building a provincial tourism brand centered on green tourism integrating coastal alongside forest ecosystems.
