From September 7 to 10, the 9th Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network Conference (APGN 2026) is being held at Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark in Malaysia.

Themed “Celebrating Networking in Geotourism”, APGN 2026 has brought together approximately 590 delegates from 22 countries, representing more than 100 geoparks worldwide. Dak Lak Province is represented by Phu Yen Geopark.

More than 190 presentations are being delivered during the conference, focusing on key topics including geotourism, community education, heritage conservation, community-based socio-eco development, geopark governance, disaster risk reduction combined with the implementation of sustainable development goals.

At APGN 2026, Phu Yen Geopark presented a paper at the opening session titled “Heritage Values of the Potential Phu Yen Geopark”. The presentation highlighted the outstanding geological, geomorphological, natural alongside cultural values of Phu Yen, while showcasing its potential for developing a geopark model that combines heritage conservation with tourism development and sustainable community livelihoods.

As part of the conference, delegates will take part in a field study programme at the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, thematic discussion sessions and various side activities.

APGN 2026 contributes to expanding international cooperation networks while providing geoparks, including Phu Yen Geopark, with opportunities to learn from models suited to their practical conditions, share experience and forge connections. These exchanges are expected to support efforts to strengthen heritage management, conservation as well as promotion activities, thereby supporting the preparation and refinement of the dossier towards UNESCO Global Geopark recognition.
