Dak Lak eyes development of eastern core urban area

Deputy Secretary of the Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee and PPC Chairman, comrade Do Huu Huy, together with leaders from relevant departments as well as sectors, recently held a working session with Phu My Hung Development Co., Ltd. aimed at promoting investment in developing an eastern core urban area into a modern, liveable township in Buon Ma Thuot in the coming period.

At the meeting, comrade Do Huu Huy said Dak Lak is a major export hub for coffee, cocoa, pepper, and durian. Notably, Buon Ma Thuot coffee - the provincial flagship product, covers more than 212,000 hectares, generating annual export output of around 240,000 tonnes.

Moreover, Dak Lak is also witnessing strong growth momentum driven by transport infrastructure, including expressways alongside airport expansion, coupled with abundant land resources and rising incomes. The province currently has two major urban centres: Buon Ma Thuot together with Tuy Hoa. Under development orientation, an eastern core urban area will take shape along Vo Nguyen Giap Boulevard, linking the city centre with the airport as well as Nha Trang expressway. The area will adjoin existing urban zones, connect via major transport corridors, while serving as a strategic eastern gateway for Buon Ma Thuot.

Highlighting a development model centred on urban economy, logistics alongside tourism, the provincial chairman expressed expectations that, drawing on Phu My Hung’s experience, the project will create a high-quality, liveable urban area aligned with local preference for garden villa-style housing in Central Highlands.

“Given Buon Ma Thuot’s position as a regional hub in Central Highlands, a Phu My Hung-style urban model here could span 300-1,000 hectares, with an estimated population ranging from 50,000-150,000”, comrade Do Huu Huy proposed.

He noted that Dak Lak’s stable economic growth, rapidly improving infrastructure,  including an expanded airport alongside ongoing expressway projects, combined with substantial land reserves and long-term development potential, present a “golden opportunity” for development of a “Phu My Hung in the heart of Buon Ma Thuot”, creating sustained growth momentum across Central Highlands region.

Mr. Gary Tseng expressed appreciation for provincial leaders along with working delegation regarding the meeting and investment invitation, adding that he looks forward to visiting Dak Lak, gaining deeper insight into local conditions while exploring cooperation opportunities in the near future.
