During the recent years, durian has emerged as a high-value commodity, making significant contributions to agricultural production growth, raising local incomes combined with driving the provincial export turnover.
However, provincial durian consumption alongside export continue facing numerous challenges, including heavy reliance on a few export markets; increasingly stringent requirements regarding phytosanitary standards, food safety together with traceability; high logistics costs; while limitations in preservation capacity, deep processing, and market responsiveness.
In response to these challenges, the industry coupled with trade sector has proactively implemented measures to accelerate trade promotion, consumption along with exports. The goals are to actively manage consumption markets, enhance value-added content together with production quality, establish sustainable supply chain linkages, as well as diversify durian export markets.

Trade promotion prioritizes connecting durian sales with distribution networks, wholesale markets, supermarkets alongside e-commerce platforms; facilitating direct business-to-business connections between overseas importers/distributors and local enterprises; while increasing the digital technology application.
Recognizing the durian quality standardization as a core task - the key to successful trade promotion - the Department of Industry and Trade collaborates with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, local authorities in conjunction with relevant agencies to gather as well as update information on expected harvest yield, growing areas, and certified packing premises to facilitate market connections. Concurrently, the sector identifies enterprises with freezing, cold storage alongside logistics capabilities to extend the sales period coupled with mitigate risks associated with product oversupply.
Regarding domestic trade promotion, the industry alongside trade sector coordinates with distribution networks to organize showcase along with promotional campaigns, involving the Dak Lak Durian Week, the 2026 Dak Lak Durian Festival, etc. The sector also calls for localities to adopt e-commerce coupled with livestream sales directly from the farm, organize online Dak Lak durian markets, as well as record promotional videos to introduce the products.

The Department of Industry and Trade also holds direct business-matching programs connecting Dak Lak enterprises with Chinese importers, logistics corporations, industry associations, combined with deep-processing firms. It also arranges field trips for partners to survey raw material zones, packing facilities together with freezing plants.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nhiem, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Department of Industry and Trade, stated that regarding international trade promotion, the province focuses on strengthening connections with the Chinese market alongside other markets, including Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, etc. Simultaneously, the department coordinates with the Departments of Industry and Trade in northern border provinces (such as Lang Son, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh, etc.) to regularly update on the custom clearance status at border crossings, cold storage capacity, combined with market demand. This ensures promptly notifications alongside alerts are sent to local enterprises coupled with cooperatives, allowing them to adjust purchasing, transportation, together with storage schedules accordingly; such measures aim to minimize cargo truck congestion at border crossings, reduce logistics costs, as well as enhance export efficiency.
