Digital transformation driving modern agriculture

Digital transformation (DX) has become a crucial driving force for restructuring the agricultural sector towards modernization, improving productivity, quality, along with competitiveness of agricultural commodities.

Instead of traditional farming methods, most farmers are now proficient in using smartphones to manage their operations. From automatic irrigation systems, environmental sensors to drones and electronic logbooks, etc., all are being integrated into the farming process.

In Tuy Hoa ward, thanks to training courses, awareness campaigns, combined with demonstration models, numerous farmer members have boldly introduced digital technology (DT) into production. “DX is becoming a practical application in local agricultural production. Farmers can now operate automated irrigation systems, purchase supplies, as well as make online payments directly on their phones,” said Mr. Ha Van Lam, Chairman of Tuy Hoa Ward Farmers’ Association.

Notably, across rice and fruit-growing areas in the communes of Hoa Thinh, Binh Kien, Ea Ly, together with Phu Hoa 2, an AI-powered insect monitoring model is being implemented, contributing to the formation of a digital database for pest forecasting coupled with control.

Dak Lak province possesses a significant advantage in large-scale concentrated raw material zones for strategic commodities, including coffee, durian, pepper, rubber, fruit trees, rice, livestock, aquaculture, along with forestry, which is a prerequisite and favorable condition for the province to promote developing industry databases, manage planting areas, as well as trace origins, thereby effectively connecting the value chain from production coupled with processing to consumption alongside export.

Digitalization - Opening the door to consumption

DT is enabling producers to connect directly with buyers through e-commerce.

Currently, 10,958 hectares of cultivated land has been standardized together with 403 planting area codes issued; in particular, 328 codes for export combined with 75 codes for domestic production. In addition, 54 packaging facilities have been granted codes. Possessing a transparent “digital passport” from the fields to the factories helps the provincial agricultural products gain wider acceptance from markets in EU countries, the Netherlands, Japan, Switzerland, the UK, France, and others.
